I struggled for most of this film; the archetypes were cliché ridden empty vessels. If Mandy uses her beauty to attract attention that's a hell of a long game and a pointless objective. Why was being an orphan relevant to this script? why was being beautiful such a distraction for a whole school? why was the dowdy aunt even in this film? why did the edgy male in the gang show us he could fire a gun at a clay pigeon? why do whippets and drugs have a five minute high in this film? why do I care about any of the characters? Too much of this film is subjective; some shots are excellent and stylised but the content leaves a lot to be desired; some of the gore is well done; in the q & a on the DVD the lead actress talks about awkwardness in Mandy Lane's character as she took her clothes off to join the group in a lake - I saw a classic playboy disrobe shot of a pretty girl. So much potential was overlooked in the script from a very good premise.

I struggled with this ... but ending is OKReviewed bysonicred007Vote: 3/10
At first glance this seems only 'teen slasher' (but a professionally filmed and acted slasher). However on reflection, the film clearly is an 'east of eden' story of true evil. Steinbeck would have been thrilled with the treatment which may turn out to be more terrifying on reflection than most teens are prepared to handle. One wonders if the story will be developed in a sequel to evil. Although the ending is unexpected, the film is fair to its audience in providing adequate clues along the way to the source of evil rather than providing only red herrings to miss lead the audience.
The movie was beautifully filmed in a striking location in dry land Texas. The movie is worth seeing for the vistas alone.
The "twist" is very predictable. The ending will leave you feeling robbed. None of the characters are likable but you do not really hate them either. Pretty much do not care about any of them. Mandy Lane is hot for sure but I think "like" is a mis-characterization of how all the boys feel about her.
This is another one of those contemporary slasher flicks that ends on a very dark note. If you are looking for vindication or a sense of justice where monsters are defeated by the virtuousness watch Friday 13th or Halloween.
I believe that slasher films are analogous to a persons inner struggle to defeat the demons with in themselves. The residual rage that some of us care from our childhood. In most movies from this genre the protagonist defeats this darkness and finds freedom.
In this film the darkness wins and the observer is left trapped in his own self destructive motivations.
These are not spoilers but warnings to those like myself that enjoy a good slasher film because it renews are faith in the power of will!
